Language and culture

Language and culture shape our experience, our interpretation of what was, and our imagination of what might be

I am bilingual (English and Portuguese) with a mature and highly nuanced use of both idioms. This is part of the multicultural awareness and experience that I bring into sessions. I have lived in three countries across two continents, in addition to further travel; possess artistic and scientific training; and read widely. The wider socio-politico-cultural context modulates ways of being and relating – directly, or indirectly via effects on primary caregivers and additional significant others, sometimes over generations. Culture can profoundly influence our judgements and feelings, how we symbolise our experience, provide useful paradigms to communicate about and evaluate ourselves.
