Importance of therapy
We all go through testing relationships, events, or periods. Sometimes an incident triggers upsetting memories or emotions from the past; others we feel nothing or feel stuck, want to make sense of feelings, or the most of circumstances. Whatever troubles us, psychotherapy offers a safe, non-judgemental, confidential, space for self-exploration and possibility. It helps us understand ourselves and others better, discover opportunities and resources, heal, gain serenity and fulfilment. Although early experiences impact personality the most, contemporary neuroscience supports optimism about change throughout adulthood. We may not have chosen certain experiences, particularly early on, but we can widen our choices now. And these carry on shaping us. We do not have to continue repeating patterns of thought or behaviour, some unawares, which may have served us well at some point but no longer do. Psychotherapy increases flexibility, toward developing more rewarding ways of being.
